I do not believe in Atheist only Fools
By: Bishop Sonny Cathey

The fool has said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good. Psalm 14:1

I have spent almost a lifetime preaching about a God that some have the mental blindness to say does not exist. Does the very fact that I have been preaching it make me right and the fool (Atheist, so called) wrong? No not based on my question alone. There was a time when the ancients thought that the World was flat and that if you sailed too far then you go over the edge into the abyss. The ancient maps had dragons drawn on them to show the fear of crossing the line into the unknown. But verifiable knowledge introduced that the world was round and that gravity would hold you to the earth. This was not a new law that man found. God said it thousands of years before man discovered it.

Isaiah 40:22-23

It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in: That brings the princes to nothing; he makes the judges of the earth as nothing.

But it seems that there is no such fear in the fool. They will fight on the courthouse steps, on the school campuses, and in any public format to prove there is no God. My question to them is always the same, “why do you fight so hard to abolish a God that does not exist. That’s why they are called fools I assume. If he doesn’t exist then he can’t hurt you.

I was watching a debate last night on YouTube. The opponents were Christopher Hitchens vs. Dinesh D’Souza. The debate was held at Notre Dame University. This night it wasn’t the fighting Irish but the fighting Atheist.

I thought to myself as I watched the debate that every debate I had ever seen had one thing in common as far as “so called” Atheist went. They cannot defend “No God” because unless you have been to every corner of the Universe you cannot conclusively say that God does not exist. You have not swept every corner of the Universe so how can you say he is not somewhere. So the reason for this article today is not to try to prove Gods existence, because the volumes of evidence are too massive to try to present tonight. So my observation for this article is to state that they cannot defend the “No God theory”. The only thing they do is to try to tear God down by bringing the horrible examples of famine, sickness and war. They say if there was a God then why does he allow all these bad things to happen. Well I could say the same of them, why does a burglary happen on your street? Why does an abortion clinic spring up in your neighborhood and you allow it to kill babies with no outcry. Mostly because atheist see nothing wrong with evil unless they can pin it on God.

I think we can safely say that Fools (Atheist) exist because if they can do away with God in their own mind then they can sin with impunity. There is no moral authority over them. It is an argument of convenience.

I only know one young man that takes the position of an Atheist that does it for other reasons other than a license to commit evil acts. He is kind and loving and one of the best people I know. If he reads this article maybe in his humility he will glean something that would turn him around. Because he has nothing to gain by not getting saved. Because he is too good to go to the depths of depravity. He is intelligent but somewhere in his life he has been disillusioned about God.

Some great author said one time and it was quoted recently to me by my Dear Bishop Samuel Smith. “Cathey, he said, Facts are a stubborn thing”. Just because you will that God not be there to Judge you doesn’t do away with the fact that he is there to Judge you. So, you are a fool to try to bypass all the evidence that God exist only to meet him at the Judgment.
Matthew Henry’s Commentary description of Psalm 14:1 says it better than I can say it:

A description of the depravity of human nature, and the deplorable corruption of a great part of mankind. - The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. The sinner here described is an atheist, one that saith there is no Judge or Governor of the world, no Providence ruling over the affairs of men. He says this in his heart. He cannot satisfy himself that there is none, but wishes there were none, and pleases himself that it is possible there may be none; he is willing to think there is none. This sinner is a fool; he is simple and unwise, and this is evidence of it: he is wicked and profane, and this is the cause. The word of God is a discerner of these thoughts. No man will say, There is no God, till he is so hardened in sin, that it is become his interest that there should be none to call him to an account. The disease of sin has infected the whole race of mankind. They are all gone aside, there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Whatever good is in any of the children of men, or is done by them, it is not of themselves, it is God's work in them. They are gone aside from the right way of their duty, the way that leads to happiness, and are turned into the paths of the destroyer. Let us lament the corruption of our nature, and see what need we have of the grace of God: let us not marvel that we are told we must be born again. Matthew Henry Concise Commentary

So I pray that anyone that reads this that is doubting God or defiantly opposing God to your own demise will consider my words.

I will say it like my friend Dan Dean wrote in his song, “I choose to be a Christian”

Verse 2 now I must admit from time to time, the thought of Heaven keeps me toeing the line. That reward that’s coming sounds too good to be true. But if it was all just a fairy tale and there was not Heaven and there was no Hell, I’d still be happy living like I do.

Chorus: I choose to be a Christian; I choose to be like him. Nobody’s holding a gun to my head this is how I want to live. Now you decide for you and I’ll decide for me, but since the choice is mine this is what I choose to be.

It’s not a fairy tale. Jesus is undeniably real.

John said in his writings, that Jesus was not a Phantom that left no footprints in the sand but he is REAL.

Please accept him into your life today. Confess your sins and ask God to forgive you of those sins and turn away from your sins and walk toward God. I dare you to take a chance and say, “God I’m going to see if you’re real. Make yourself real to me”. He will my friends. He loves the challenge of saving you.
